Who does Aaron look like??

After Aaron was born, we really couldn't tell if he looked like Bryan or myself. He has my nose, and Bryan's hands & feet. But he didn't really look like either of us. As I was staring at him in the hospital, it dawned on me who he looked like - My Brother! I think he looks like Adam as a baby.

TWINS!

Welcome Aaron!

Meet my beautiful baby boy, Aaron Jay Nickel. He was born at 7:57pm on 09/12/12. He weighed 7lb 1oz & was 21.5 in long (he had a bit of a cone head, his length went down when the swelling went down).

Here's a recap filled with lots of pictures:

Bryan & I went in to the hospital at 10pm on Tuesday, 09/11/12. Here we are getting ready to leave.

I was all hooked up to the machines by about 10:30pm or so. The nurse gave me a pill to help speed things along. They wanted me to progress as much on my own before giving me Pitocin.

Around 4:30am my water broke. I was still only around 2-3 cm dilated at that point. Once my water broke, my contractions really started picking up. Since I wasn't on Pitocin yet, and hadn't had an epidural, I was able to move around. I tried rocking in the rocking chair to help take my mind off the increasing pain. Needless to say, I didn't sleep. Contractions are period cramps on steroids. But they were still manageable at that point.

Around 8:30am I got my epidural and started the Pitocin since I wasn't progressing very quickly on my own (still a 3 at this point). Once I got the epidural, all I could do was just sit around and wait. My favorite nurse, Danielle, thought I would deliver by 3pm. I was too excited to sleep, even though that's what I should have been doing. I think I took a short nap. Our families started showing up late morning/early afternoon. And we all just waited.

I finally got to a 10 and was able to start pushing around 5:30pm. It wasn't too bad....at first. Then my epidural wore off.  Holy hella pain, Batman! OMG. Running the 1/2 marathon with tendonitis in both ankles was a cake walk compared to this. They got the anesthesiologist back in to give me a booster dose of the epidural. This helped for a little while, then I began puking. I was a hot mess, literally. I kept apologizing to all of the nurses for being so disgusting. They told me I did some of my best pushing when I was puking. After 2.5 hours of pushing, he finally arrived! He was a little stunned when he came out; it took a bit for him to "wake up". But he finally did, and was just perfect. Even his swollen, bruised cone head was perfect to me. We loved him immediately.

Proud Daddy

Finally relaxing after working so hard

I cried the day we left the hospital. I didn't want to leave my security blanket.

We've been home over a week now. We're figuring out how to function on little sleep, eat very quickly,  do things with one hand.....you get my drift. I find myself staring at him all day long. I feel like Holly Hunter in "Raising Arizona" crying while exclaiming, "I love him so much!". We're learning a lot about him every day. His favorite thing to do is to poo in his clean, just changed diaper. Without fail, he will wait until I change his diaper, and then have a massive explosion. Sometimes his explosions are so loud that Bryan has to ask if it was him or me. They startle him awake most of the time. It makes me laugh so hard.

This is his gas grin. It usually means an explosion is soon to come.

He also hates, HATES, bath time.

After all the bed rest, going overdue, and then having a long labor, it was the best experience of my life. We have this perfect angel in our lives now. I am so in love. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Our Last Night....

Dear Baby - You have officially overstayed your welcome. Please show your precious face, tonight preferably. Love - Mama

Tonight is Bryan and my last night of what we've considered "normalcy" for the almost 4 years that we've been married. The next chapter in our lives starts tomorrow at approximately 10pm. I'm not really nervous, maybe a little anxious for all the unknowns, but mostly just excited to meet my son, and to not be pregnant anymore, and to drink wine again.

I've been feeling really good up until yesterday. Since yesterday, I've felt nauseous, lots of pressure, tired, back ache, crabby (Bryan ate my cookie - it got pretty ugly over here) - all signs that labor is soon to come. So will it come tonight?? A part of me wishes it would so I can go into labor naturally. Then a part of me doesn't want my kid to be born on 9/11. I know that's silly - it has been 11 years now. It really won't bother me that much, though. Especially b/c my friend, Kristen, told me that Ludacris, Harry Connick Jr & Bear Bryant all have birthdays on 9/11. And we all know how big of a Luda fan I am! In all seriousness, though, I'm just ready to meet him. I'm ready to start this new little family Bryan & I have been preparing for - we're going on 10 months of prep, that's a long time! It's hard to believe that I will be a mommy on Wednesday!

This will probably be my last post for a bit. I will try to get some pictures up on the blog as soon as I can.

40 Weeks......WHAT??

I guess all of the praying to Jesus, Mary, Joseph and all the apostles and saints to keep him in really did work.  He's clearly in no hurry to go anywhere. Today my due date has come, and almost gone.  I can't believe it. Who would have thought I would go past my due date? Not this girl. But this is better than the alternative.

We are very ready for his arrival. I have run out of things to clean and organize. I'm reorganizing the things I've already organized. I want to start cleaning my cleaning supplies. I've become Danny Tanner.  My point is, I'm ready. Waiting just makes me more anxious.

I'm still feeling pretty good. I have some days where I feel like a crabby, sweaty, waddling, heifer. The walk from my car to my office in this hot weather really makes me pleasant in the morning (major sarcasm here). And I burnt my stomach, yes stomach, on a cookie sheet this week. And, yes, I was wearing a shirt, it just didn't cover my whole stomach. But overall, things aren't too bad.

Since the thought of being 41 weeks pregnant makes me want to cry a little, I made the decision yesterday to be induced if he decides not to come over the weekend. So we're going to be getting induced next Wednesday, 9/12. Sorry, Uncle Tom - I tried for 9/13 but it didn't work out. I'm still holding out hope he'll come this weekend. I mall walked after work today to try to get things moving along. We have a wedding on Saturday. You better believe I'm going to be out on the dance floor doing the YMCA, cupid shuffle, and whatever other typical reception dance there will be. And then I'm going to make Bryan take me to Denny's so I can order hot sauce with a side of castor oil (aka-sausage). I know none of these things are proven to work, but what the heck.

The waiting game continues....

More Pics

Once I got released from bed rest, one of the first things I wanted to do was get some maternity pictures with Bryan.  Here are a few of my favorites from our 37 week session.  They all turned out great!

Nursery Pics

The nursery is pretty much done.  Some of the decor & items in his room are things from mine & Bryan's childhood - books, blankets, knick knacks.  I just have some blank picture frames to put pictures in, and maybe put up one decal behind the crib. And have a baby, of course!

39 Weeks

With each passing day, I'm still a little surprised nothing has happened. But that just means another preggo pic!
